Walking an Ancient Path: Making, walking and dancing a classical labyrinth. With live music and tea!

Thursday Dec. 15th, 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Secret Lantern Society is very excited to host this, the very first public workshop in Secret Headquarters, our new home in East Vancouver! We hope your participation will deepen your understanding of labyrinths and help you prepare for our 29th Annual Winter Solstice Lantern Festival the following week.

Presented by Susan Gerofsky (mathematical artist, squeezebox player, and UBC math education professor) and Sam Milner (violinist, math teacher, aspiring novelist)

In this participatory 90-minute workshop we will explore the 4,000-year history of labyrinths, an ancient form found in numerous cultures around the globe. We’ll experiment with small simple line drawings of various geometric patterns and the mathematical possibilities that grow from them, and we’ll create a few large-scale labyrinths in chalk on the floor. Together we will walk and dance these ancient paths meditatively and playfully, experiencing how these beautiful, mysterious paths affect us!

Space is limited to 20 participants so please register early. NOTE: Online registration ends Dec 14 at midnight. Address will be provided upon registration. Click the button below to register.

Fee: $12/person.
